I knew it had been a while but didn't realize it had been this long. I am posting from an iPad that I doesn't have any of my pictures on so I apologize this will be a pictureless post :( and a lengthy one too. I am just going to break down the things that have been going on month by month, for chronological reasons ;)

June: My littlest brother, Baby, who is not so little anymore, came to stay with us for the summer. We flew him out here so he could spend the summer with us and earn some money. We took Lexi out of daycare for the 2 months he was here and he babysat her :) It was nice for him to be out here and get to spend time with us before starting high school. My 27th Birthday was on June 21st :) I got my hair dyed ombré and Derek took me shopping for a new straightener and hair products. I'm sure we went out for dinner some where but I can't remember. Aside from that June was pretty uneventful from what I remember.

July: The beginning of July we went down to Southern California for my niece, Harlow's birthday. It worked out nicely because I had 4th of July off and even though her birthday is on 4th of July, my brother celebrated it on that Saturday. I wish I had the pictures on here to post of Harlow and Lexi; I love seeing them together. Baby's birthday was on July 26th and we took him to Boondocks, an arcade/miniature golf place, took him out to eat and made him a yummy cake.

August August was very eventful. Sadly baby had to leave at the beginning of the month to start school :( We had a fun Summer with lots of swimming and fun activities, so it was sad to see him go. We went to my cousin David's wedding which was so fun and it was really great to be able to see all of my family. We also signed Lexi up for a Creative Ballet class for Saturday mornings at Utah Dance Artist. One of my coworkers gave me 2 free tickets for the "new" aquarium they opened in Draper. Derek had work to do so Lexi and I made a date out of it. It was really crowded but we had fun :)

September The first weekend in September Derek got to go on a fun trip to Austin with his bosses from work to watch the BYU/Texas game and the Cowboys/49ers game. I was very jealous of the hubbster because I have always wanted to got to Austin. Derek and my mom's birthday are both on September 10th. Unfortunately I couldn't be with my mom on her birthday but I bought some food to go and a yummy cupcake for Derek and we had a quiet evening at home. Derek's little sister Holly came over and bought some stuff over for Derek and more cupcakes :) Derek was all sugared out. Lexi is loving her ballet class, she is a little shy but once she gets in there she loves it! We had her stay the first week for the Tap class but she seemed to distracted and the teacher kind of ignored her for the last half hour so it really wasn't a good fit, so just ballet for now. One of my good friends, Rachel, was visitng last weekend from Texas and Lexi and I got to spend some time with her. It was so nice to see her and catch up.

I have been so busy and stressed lately. I will post more about that later and also have some fun stuff to post about coming soon. Ohhhh I bought the pattern today for Lexi's Anna Halloween dress :) I am so excited. I promise to post more regularly. Enjoy!

I've been meaning to blog about Disneyland, it was so fun, I can't wait to go back! We headed down to Southern California the first weekend in May. My dad had his wedding reception on May 3rd. We had a blast there were so many people there, I didn't realize my dad knew so many people lol. They had a jumper for the kids which was kind of random but it was a relaxed backyard sort of reception. Lexi and Harlow had a blast in the jumper and running around. There was a dog there that Lexi was absolutely obsessed with; If I wasn't convinced before that she needs a dog I definitely am now. I met my dad's wife for the first time and she was so sweet and he was so happy. I am so happy for him and so glad that I got to be a part of their day.

I have some more pictures but not on this computer so I will have to add them later.

Sunday we headed out to Northern Los Angeles and drove around the different areas. It is no secret that I want to move back to California. I am a California girl and could never see myself making roots in Utah. We would love to be able to make a home in Northern Los Angeles and after getting to see the neighborhoods, we were interested in, I am in love. After spending some time in Los Angeles we headed to Orange County. We stayed right down the street from Disneyland. Derek and I had stayed at the same hotel almost 6 years ago, not too soon after we started dating, we went to Disneyland with some of his friends. We settled in at the hotel and I met up with my best friends, Kathy and Mags, we headed to Downtown Disney and had some dinner and drinks and got to catch up. It was so fun to catch up and reminds me of how much I want to be back home.

Best Friends!

Monday we headed to Disneyland pretty soon after opening. I had Lexi's Bibbiddi Bobbiddi Boutique appointment for 10:50 that morning. Alexis did so amazing when she was getting her makeover. I don't know what it was but right after her makeover Lexi became a little diva for the rest of the day lol. We initially were going to do the coach package, which would have included professional photos and meeting the Disney princess', but I decided to cut back on our trip and we went with the castle package. I really wanted to take Lexi to meet Anna and Elsa but it was a 6 hour wait! I felt we should save that for when she gets a little older and it means a little more to her. After Lexi's makeover we headed back to the entrance of the park to meet up with my family. My awesome brother, his girlfriend, my niece, my mom, and my littlest brother all came to the park to help us celebrate Lexi's birthday. We had some photo pass pictures taken but I haven't ordered them yet but I will post that later.

We didn't get to go on too many rides. One thing I learned and will never make the mistake of again is spending just one day at Disneyland with a toddler. One of the June moms I know was there the same day and did a 3 day park hopper and she said that was just about enough time with a toddler. We tried to meet up but unfortunately could not line up our times. Lexi did love the teacups! The Haunted Mansion was interesting; Lexi was just a little scared but the ride kept stalling and we ended up stopping and getting stuck for several minutes at a time. Derek finally got to try the Dole whip, it had been so long, and it was so refreshing. Lexi loved the buzzlight year ride and we had a blast at Space Mountain. My awesome friend Sam who super hooked it up at Disneyland, was working Space Mountain that day :) The stroller passes were really helpful we got to go on while my mom and baby watched Lexi and Harlow and than they got to get on and go straight to the front of the line when we got out.

I made dinner reservations at Tortilla Jo's so we headed to our hotel room to get the cute cupcakes and headed back to Downtown Disney. The food was so yummy and the cupcakes were too. Since it was Cinco De Mayo it was pretty busy and they had a sweet mariachi band playing. Lexi loved them and was doing a lot of dancing. After dinner we bought some Disney merchandise. Lexi loves her Elsa/Anna doll. She also loved her Minnie Mouse ears and her Mickey balloon. Derek's leg was hurting him a bit so he headed back to the hotel room with Lexi and my little brother; The rest of us headed to Disneyland and got on one last ride. My mom and I squeezed into a ride together, she is super skinny, me not so much but it was hilarious and a lot of fun. We headed back to our hotel and Lexi got to open her present from my mom and we called it a night. I was so sad to have to leave Disneyland but I am so looking forward to our next longer trip :)

Tuesday afternoon we headed to Las Vegas. We stayed at the Excalibur since I had a free room; I had never stayed there before and don't necessarily think I would again. The people who work the floor were really annoying and kept trying to get us to go to a time share presentation. The room was ok, we got a free upgrade. We ate dinner at the hotel and called it a night, the next morning we went to breakfast off the strip and came back to the Aria. We walked the strip and had lunch at Caesar's Palace and than headed back to the Aria, did some gambling, bought some dessert and headed home.

For Lexi's birthday I bought her some super cute balloons and we took her to Chuck E Cheese, it was her first time and she loved watching the characters on stage and also had fun playing the games. I remembered their pizza being a lot better but it was fun and she liked it. After pizza we went to Red Mango for some frozen yogurt. Lexi loved the mochi topping on her yogurt, now I have to find a store that sells it ;)

We have so much going on these next few months. It's kind of stressful. One thing I am so excited about is my little brother, baby, yes I still call him that, will be coming out to Utah for the summer! We will be driving down on Saturday, initially we were going to meet up with him in Vegas but decided we would meet up in Mesquite and drive back home that same day. We are going to have my dad drive him up to Mesquite so it won't be too bad of a drive for either of us. He is coming to spend the summer here because he wants to play football, he's starting high school in the fall, and Derek volunteered to help train him and help him with getting in shape and all he needs to know about playing football. Secondly we decided to have him babysit Lexi, since it would give him a chance to make some money while he's out here. So this will be Lexi's last week of daycare, more than likely she will go back there come August since it will be right down the street from her preschool, which I still need to register her for. I am excited for baby to come out here; I plan on having a lot of fun activities for us to do while he is out here.

My birthday is coming up next month. I am excited to be getting my hair done soon :) For July 4th weekend we will be heading to Southern California for Harlow's birthday! Also in August we will be heading down for my cousin David's wedding and to drop baby off. One of my favorite things that we have been doing a lot of on our trips down is getting to stop in Vegas. Even though it's only for a night there is a lot of fun stuff to do and it helps cut the trip short for us.

One thing I am really looking forward to is planning a fun mommy daughter Vegas weekend for me and my mom for her birthday in September. Unfortunately Lexi will not be joining us but I think she'll forgive me ;) My mom doesn't know about the Vegas trip yet, shhh it's a secret.

There is possibly more for me to say but it is bedtime. Goodnight and enjoy! Not stressful in a bad way just a lot of changes and I've been really tired lately, which is probably my fault because I've been going to bed late this past week. I find myself not being tired or restless so I'll stay up but find myself tired at work. This is a good sign of needing a vacation.

In 3 1/2 weeks we will be at Disneyland! I am not looking forward to driving for 10 hours, but it will be worth it. I am just excited to relax and have a good time with my hubby and Lexi. I am so excited to see her reaction to Disneyland and see how she enjoys all the fun activities. We have some cool stuff planned for our trip. I'm also excited to see my family again.

I can't believe it's April already, time seems to fly. We've had some really beautiful days here lots of kite flying weather. I am hoping the weather continues to stay nice :) I'm finally feeling like it's Spring time.
Vanessa Hodgeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07948184901276178786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240967245118442090.post-29154360554819114702014-03-30T23:01:00.001-06:002014-03-30T23:05:22.302-06:00Loving The New Look On The Blog I decided the blog needed a new look. I originally was going to go with something different but decided on this look and I love it! I also decided to link some social media on here :)

I haven't been blogging as much as I use to a lot of it is because I am usually too tired to blog when I get home from work or just busy around the house; Alexis has also been a handful lately. She is a sweetheart but has been going through a bratty stage, it's almost like the terrible twos waited till the end of her 2nd year. We are trying to get her to follow directions better.

Lexi has been potty trained for about a month now and she is doing amazing. She has had a night accident here and there, but I think a lot of it is because she kicks her blankets off at night and it's still pretty cold here; I've been giving her two blankets at night to try and keep her warm.

I feel like time is dragging. I have been picking up a lot of overtime lately since we have our mini-vacation at Disneyland in about 36 days :) I am really excited for this vacation, it is much needed. I am so excited for Lexi since it will be her first time and we're going for her birthday. Speaking of Disney, Lexi is obsessed with Frozen! I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about it because people were talking it up, similar to Tangled and I hated Tangled, but we bought it for her and I absolutely love it; Lexi wants to watch it all the time!

Derek's work has these exercise one person trampolines, called a cellerciser we bought one and I've been using it everyday along with doing my 30 Day Squat Challenge. I'm almost at the end of the challenge. I've been losing very little weight lately and it's kind of annoying but I think the squat challenge is building muscle so that could be why. I may just have to change my routine up a bit :)

That is all for now. Enjoy :)Vanessa Hodgeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07948184901276178786noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240967245118442090.post-29623210777415248392014-03-10T20:21:00.001-06:002014-03-12T13:45:11.685-06:00Spring Is Coming!
I cannot believe it is already March! I know I probably say that about every month but it just seems crazy that we are almost half way through March. Well I actually have a lot of stuff to update the blogosphere with.

After months of not seeing my family we finally went down 2 weeks ago to visit. Our brakes got really bad so we had to get them changed but did not want to pay $400 plus dollars to get them done here so we decided to drive down and kill two birds with one stone. We left on a Friday after work and I drove the whole night. We spent Saturday getting our brakes fixed by my awesome dad! We ate some yummy Mexican food, Utah has nothing that compares to California Mexican. I met up with Kathy and we had drinks and dinner at BJ's. That night my brother, his girlfriend, Derek and I went to San Manuel Casino to do some gambling, while my awesome mom watched the girls. We had a blast and I won like $100 dollars! Sunday we all met up with my dad to have breakfast for his birthday which was on the 26th. After breakfast we decided to head out, Derek and I both took Monday off so we were spending the night in Vegas :) I was sad to be leaving but knew that I would be coming back soon, so it wasn't too bad. Derek had a comped room at the Aria so we got to stay there pretty much for free :) I had never stayed there but I loved it! We got there Sunday evening and once we got settled in ate at the hotel at this yummy pizza place, they had the best calamari, we watched part of the Oscars while we had dinner. After dinner we got some yummy dessert and took it up to the room. After dessert I went downstairs to do a little gambling while Derek hung out with Alexis in the room. Just as the night before after 20 minutes I turned $40 dollars into like $170 and went upstairs to tell Derek and decide to go back down stairs and gamble some more and of course I lost most of what I had won :( which I guess is ok because I lost what I won and not just lost in general; I think the key is to walk away when you're up by a hundred lol we watched the Walking Dead and called it a night. The next morning packed up all our stuff and went out for breakfast, it was a beautiful cool, sunny day on the strip. After breakfast we came back to the hotel and walked around we took Lexi to the arcade and played some games with her. Come lunch time we headed to The Buffet at the hotel, I had a comped meal and it was amazing, the dessert bar was soooo good! **I gave up soda about 3 months ago or so and I had soda there for the first time since I gave it up and it helped me remember why I gave it up, not that I drank it that much to begin with, but definitely not wanting to go back to drinking it anytime soon.** After our yummy lunch we headed home, I drove the whole way home and even though I was bummed to have to come back home it was nice in some way to be back to the routine.

I had started potty training Lexi the weekend before we went home and we figured this trip would help us figure out if she was really potty trained. Well she was absolute perfection on the drive down and back up, no accidents. When we were in Southern California we stayed at my brothers; They have my niece who will be 2 in July and she is not potty trained yet, though they did have a potty for her. Well Lexi was soooo excited to be with her and play that she had 3 accidents within a 2 hour span, which is not like her, whenever I took her to the potty she would sit and get up right away because she was so anxious to play so I figured she just didn't have to go. At daycare all of the kids in her class go so I think it was hard for her to adjust to the situation. I don't really think her accidents were a really big deal because it was isolated to that situation, the second we were out of there she was perfect. We have a potty for her here at home and before we left on our trip I bought her a portable potty seat. When we were in Vegas I kept it in the bathroom and Lexi was a superstar taking it and putting it on the toilet. After our trip we definitely decided she was potty trained. I am so impressed by her and myself ;) having never potty trained anyone, I think I did great and she was a total superstar. When we got back we took Alexis to Target and she got to pick out a toy for being such a potty training rock star, she picked an uber cute lalaloopsy doll.

We have a lot of stuff coming up in the next couple of months. My dad surprised me by telling me he is getting married!!!! I was shocked to say the least. I feel bad I think he felt I wasn't happy for him, but I was just so surprised. I am very happy for him. I have not met her since they've only been going out for a little over a year, is what he told me. He is getting married May 3rd! My first thought, well second was that Lexi's birthday is on the 14th, not even 2 weeks after the wedding and with the wedding my dad probably wouldn't be able to make it out for Lexi's birthday so as sad as it is to have to cancel my plans for her circus themed birthday party, we decided it would be best. We are going to take Lexi to Disneyland instead that weekend for her birthday/first time! I haven't been to Disneyland in years, since Derek and I first started dating, so almost 6 years. We are going to take Lexi to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique to have a princess makeover :) I am sooo excited to do this with her. I am counting down the days to Disneyland.

We have Disneyland in May; I have my best friends birthday at the beginning of June; My niece is turning 2, July 4th; Lastly my cousin is getting married in August. Than of course September starts all the awesome fall holidays, so we have a pretty packed Summer ahead of us. Lucky for us March and April are uneventful so we will be saving for the upcoming festivities.

I have been trying to be really good and keeping with my "diet". I have a protein shake for breakfast and lunch and eat a regular meal for dinner. It's not too bad except for the occasional headache in the middle of the day. I just started the 30 Day Squat Challenge :) Today is my third day and I am so sore but looking forward to seeing some results. I am hoping to lose atleast 20 pounds before Disneyland and I think that's pretty doable.

Lexi is such a doll and gets more and more beautiful as she grows. She looks like she is getting some fat on her. Lexi is wearing 2T clothes, which I know is crazy because she is almost three but of course she is super small, which I don't mind :) Lexi is so smart, she loves to read and she recently discovered a love for The Muppets :)

Here are some pictures of our trip. Enjoy :)

So it's been a while since I posted anything and this is very exciting so I thought I would post about it.

Alexis has been using the potty at daycare off and on, while she was still in diapers. Lexi's daycare had been telling us for the last month that they were going to start potty training her and I never heard anything and finally on Thursday her daycare teacher told me to bring Lexi some panties and pants/sweats so they could start this week. We already had some panties at home for Lexi but went out and bought her a ton more and some pants/sweats since we don't really have a ton laying around. Well Friday at daycare Alexis did great, she didn't have any accidents at daycare. I decided this past weekend we, or better yet I, was going to potty train her. I had read a lot of stuff in the past on Pinterest about how to potty train in one day so I read over one of the pins and this is the one I decided to follow How To Potty Train In One Day. I didn't follow it completely, more of that ahead. I was lax about it on Saturday because I just wanted her to get used to the potty before I committed to a whole day of potty hell haha. Well Lexi did have a couple of accidents on Saturday but I also wasn't being too strict.

Well on Sunday we hit it hard. Here are the tips I did follow from the blog. We woke up in the morning and had breakfast like normal and right after breakfast I had Lexi sit on the potty and she peed, the potty plays music and cheers when she pees or poops, I cheered with her and gave her tons of praise and gave her a candy; I had gummy bears and Twizzlers. We put her in just her shirt and panties, no pants. I put a ton of her toys on the kitchen floor and I sat there with her. We made sure to stay off the carpet. I gave Lexi tons of water and snacks, but no candy, I made sure the candy was only for when she successfully went potty. We spent practically all day this way every 15 minutes I took her to the bathroom and would time her for 10 minutes, she would sing the ABCs and I'd sing her songs and just play and keep her busy, after those 10 minutes I'd set my timer for 15 minutes and we just did that all day. We'd take her pee or poop and dump it in the toilet and I'd have her flush it and wash her hands, she knows how to wash her hands really well from when she first started daycare :) She peed several times and pooped at least twice with no accidents. Come 6:30pm I went to go pick up my brother from work and of course when I'm gone she has an accident with daddy, he told me he made sure to tell her "no pee on the floor, pee on the potty" than I got home and The Walking Dead was on I took her to the toilet during a commercial and she peed and I had a feeling she had more to do but of course I wanted to get back to The Walking Dead so of course a minute later she has a little accident, so that was really my bad I didn't give her the whole 10 minutes I should have; Those were the only two accidents she had all day she was a total rock star, she blew me away and I am so proud.

Come night time I had wrapped her mattress in plastic because we decided not to do any pull ups at night, we are doing panties only and not looking back. Well Lexi and Derek have been sick on and off for the last month and Lexi was having such a hard time going to bed. When we went to bed she was fine but in the middle of the night I woke up and she had peed herself, so I woke her up and had her sit on the potty and she didn't pee so i cleaned her up and put her in fresh panties. A couple of hours later I woke up and she was peed again so I sat her on the potty again she she went and I cleaned her up again and put her to bed, I put another blanket over her sheet, also Lexi had a pretty bad fever so I gave her some Tylenol and had her lay with me till she fell asleep. In the morning when i woke up she was peed and had some throw up on her sheet. Poor Lexi had a rough night and I didn't expect her to stay dry. She stayed dry on the way to daycare this morning. So overall I think Lexi did amazing with potty training. I was pretty upset when i picked her up from daycare I asked the daycare teacher that was there, not the normal teacher Lexi has, if Lexi had used the bathroom, she said she just had so we stopped to get some food on the way home and I kept praising Lexi for staying clean, well come to find out when I got home and put her on the potty that she was wearing a diaper!!! I was so upset. I did not spend my time trying to potty training so that they would put her in diapers. I am pretty upset about it and will be talking to them about it tomorrow; I'm not sure if it was just miscommunication with her usual teacher and the new one that was there today but I want to make sure she is only in panties from now on. Lexi went out with me to the store today and she had no accidents and has not had any at home today :) I haven't been going ever 15 minutes we've been doing it every 20 to 30 minutes. I am constantly touching her underwear and saying "no pee pee" and she says "no" and I say "good girl". I think Lexi definitely loves the praise. I'm trying not to give her any drinks before bed, and we are going to be moving Lexi's bed time up to 8:30 or 9. Someone also recommended to me some disposable bed mats that would go over the sheet so it would be so much easier and nicer than having to wash sheets everyday.

I was feeling really behind with Lexi starting so late; We bought her her potty for her 2nd birthday but decided we were going to wait until she was ready and interested and it happened to be now. I was surprised by how many other June Bugs either just started or haven't started potty training at all.

I have some other new stuff going on but I will post about that later. Enjoy! Vanessa Hodgeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07948184901276178786noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240967245118442090.post-24208352025925060692014-01-21T00:03:00.001-07:002014-01-21T23:18:53.720-07:00What's New?It's been about a month since I posted; I told myself I was going to post more often but I feel like my life is so uneventful as of late.

Lexi is getting bigger and sassier! She has been very whiny lately, those terrible twos are living up to their reputation. She is very temperamental but than super sweet. We call her a sour patch kid. She loves to say no and lately she's been pulling my hair. I am definitely not down with her misbehaving so I've been super stern with her and hoping together Derek and I can get her to stop acting out.

Aside from being extra sassy, which may be due to her growing pains, she is talking so much now and is ready to potty train :) she's gone at daycare a couple of times and they let me know they are going to officially start soon so we can mirror it at home. I am excited for her to learn and excited for no more diapers. Yay for cute underwear!

As Lexi gets older I love seeing little bits of her personality that remind me of me. She loves "reading" she will sit with a book and look through it like she's actually reading. Her daycare teacher tells me that she loves to sit in the little reading nook and just read all day also she told me she points to the radio whenever she wants to dance and apparently she loves to dance; Definitely my little mini me :)

I gave my 2 weeks notice this weekend at OG. The only reason I worked there for this long was the extra money. I think I may have a bone spur in my foot so continuing to work there is making it worse. I have to see a doctor about it. I am going to miss the extra money and I do love the people I work with but it's just not worth it anymore.

We had planned to go to Seattle next weekend for my brothers birthday but we decided we couldn't afford to go :( but I am hoping end of February we can go to Southern California and see my family and friends.

Well that is all I have to say. Enjoy :)
Vanessa Hodgeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07948184901276178786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240967245118442090.post-12475032228904268232013-12-24T14:40:00.000-07:002013-12-24T14:49:24.154-07:00Merry Christmas Eve Update! I can't believe it is Christmas Eve today! The holidays really came on fast. I also can't believe that I haven't blogged since the end of September; I kept meaning to but just kept getting busy. Here is a lengthy update of what's been going on.

October:

In mid October we moved into a new apartment in Lehi. We live right behind the Outlets in Traverse Mountain. It's a 3 bd 2 bath apartment, my two brothers and their friend are living with us. The apartment is huge and has an attached garage which is really nice, especially now that it is snowing. Towards the end of October I started my new job at Cardon Outreach. They had just moved to a new building from Sandy to Draper, so it is much closer to us now that we live in Traverse. I've been working there for 2 months now and I really like it, it's not what i want to do forever, but for now it's a really good job and i love my coworkers. Alexis also started a new daycare in Draper that is very close to my job. This new daycare is still not my favorite but definitely better than the last one. Alexis' daycare teacher is Mexican so she speaks to Alexis in Spanish which is nice and she always tells me that Lexi loves to dance when she plays music and that she's a really good girl at daycare, which makes me happy.

We took Lexi to Cornbelly's again this year. She wasn't as happy about it as she was last year lol but she still had a good time. Here are some pictures:

I made Lexi's costume this year again. I decided on a peacock costume and i made the tutu and the headband and bought her a blue shirt to complete the costume. She loved it and looked so freaking cute. We went trick or treating at Derek's grandma's and Lexi got some good candy. Lexi only got to eat some of the candy, as we don't really like to give her too many sweets. We were going to put her in the Halloween pageant but last minute decided not to; I'm sure Lexi would have won but there is always next time. Here are some pictures from Halloween.

November:

My favorite month! I love November and usually I have a lot going on during but this year November was not too busy. Derek went to Green Bay for a Packers game and I was so very jealous! Being a Green Bay fan all my life I haven't been to Lambeau yet but lucky Derek got to go on a work trip. That weekend he was gone was my fist weekend off in a long time since I am still working at Olive Garden on the weekends and certain nights a week. It was nice to have a girls weekend with Lexi. Derek bought me a cute little badger from the University of Wisconsin, my favorite animal is a badger :) he went to a football game at the University of Wisconsin, he also bought Lexi a cheese head!

December

This month has been a busy month. Alexis had the year end finals pageant but we've been so busy we decided not to do it. I've been working a ton this month and planning for Christmas. I had my work Christmas Party last week, my company rented out a movie theater and we had an ice cream social where they gave out some awards and everyone got to watch a movie; I didn't stay for the movie since Derek had his work party that same night. We had another unofficial Christmas party at a bar downtown on Friday, that was fun to get to hang out with my coworkers outside of work. We had our Christmas pictures taken on Friday and we decided to go with Purple as our colors; I know purple is hardly a Christmas color but Derek picked out a purple sweater so we decided to go with that. We decided not to send out Christmas cards this year, but here are some of our Christmas pictures.

We have our tree with our color coordinating purple ornaments with all of Alexis' gifts under the tree. Derek and I didn't get each other any gifts since we both got the new iPhone, but we did do our stockings as well as Alexis'. I got Alexis a Minnie Mouse ornament since Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Minnie's Boutique have been her favorite shows this year. Here are some pictures:

I don't work today or tomorrow at Cardon but i do work tonight at OG, but we close early so hopefully it won't be too bad. I am excited for Lexi to open her gifts :) We let her open one gift at midnight and the rest she will open tomorrow morning. She gets to open her pajamas tonight, I hope she likes them :) We always go to the movies on Christmas Day so we're going to watch The Wolf of Wall Street, those of you that know me know I love Leo and Scorsese :) I will be sure to blog more regularly. Merry Christmas! I love love love this time of the year. Fall has always been my favorite season :)I just realized I haven't blogged since July, woah. I have just been working nonstop and every time I say I'm going to blog I end up getting busy. So a lot has been going on since I last posted.

I didn't end up getting that job that I really wanted :( they called me and told me they thought I would be perfect for the job but they had another candidate who actually had experience in that position so of course they had to give it to him. He did say that if they had another position open up they would call me, but those are hard to come across so we'll see. I am still working at the school as a teacher in training but I just don't know if that is what I want to do right now especially for what they are paying me. I really wanted to get that other position and I actually applied with a another company for a similar position and got a phone interview and have an in person interview with them on Wednesday so I'm excited for that and hoping it works out well. I am still working at OG on the weekends and I pick up shifts every once in a while during the week as well. You can imagine working everyday of the week gets very exhausting. But I am doing it for the extra money, especially with the holidays coming up, if I get this other position I am not going to continue working at OG for much longer.

Yesterday I had my first Saturday off since like July. I had originally requested it off because there was a pageant we were going to put Alexis in, but last minute we decided not too. We ended up going up to Snowbird for Oktoberfest :) I went to Oktoberfest when I was 18, when I first moved to San Francisco for college, and I loved it! If you know me, you know that I love anything German, so we had a good time eating some yummy German food. We took Lexi with us and she had so much fun, there was a little bit of snow up there so it was really pretty. We came home that afternoon and took a nap and wanted to go to the movies but couldn't find a babysitter so we went to Rodizio Grill for dinner and came home and relaxed the rest of the night. It was so nice to get out and do something on my one day off. We also went to a BYU football game Friday, since Derek got free tickets from his boss, so that was fun, even though of I am not a BYU fan ;)

As I mentioned earlier. I love love Fall. My favorite month is November but I have grown very fond of October, ever since I had Lexi. Halloween time is so fun when you have a little one, I'm pretty sure it's a tie between Halloween and Christmas. Last year was so fun because we took her to a pumpkin patch, I made her Boo costume, we had my work trunk or treat, and the picture contest which she won ;) and we did our trick or treating. Well this year we have a fun packed month as well. We're taking her to Cornbelly's again to pick out her pumpkin, there is a costume pageant at the end of the month, I am making her costume again this year, she is going to be a peacock :) Derek knows someone who owns a peacock farm so he is going to try to get me real feathers, and I would also love to take Lexi to a corn maze.

Side Note: I have to mention this because I think it's crazy how man hits my post,How To Make A Monsters Inc Boo Costume, has gotten; I'm almost at 20,000 and it's not even October yet! I've been pinned a gagillion times and have had some people leave such sweet comments about it. It makes me happy that so many people are using my tutorial to make the costume, because I remember when I was trying to make the costume and how little info there was out there. Plus it always feels good to know that your good at something you only had a small amount of experience in.

I mentioned before that I disliked Alexis' daycare; Well I put in her 30 day notice and her last day there will be the 17th. I am wanting to put her back in at one of the two daycare's she was at before, but just a closer location. I am working in Draper now and if I get the other position I will still be in Draper so I am looking in that area. Lexi has a dentist appointment this month that I am looking forward to. Lexi is getting bigger everyday and her hair is getting longer and longer, which keeps prompting Derek to ask if we can cut it, to which I always answer no lol. I love Lexi's long hair and want to keep it that way; Once it gets down to her waist I will probably give in but for now it is right around her mid-back, so I think we'll keep it long through winter.

Speaking of Winter... I don't think it'll be too long before it starts snowing. The top of the mountains are already covered in snow so this be be a very early winter, which is bittersweet for me. I love the cold whether because I love dressing myself and Lexi for Fall, and love the snow, but I hate driving in the snow. I guess we'll see how early it decides to make it's appearance.

I think that is all I have for now. Hopefully I will have time to update in the following weeks. Enjoy.Vanessa Hodgeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07948184901276178786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240967245118442090.post-3753395359218041452013-07-31T09:18:00.000-06:002013-07-31T09:18:26.327-06:00Alexis' 2 Year Appointment Alexis was supposed to have her 2 year appointment back in May but because back in March Derek and I had both changed jobs his insurance took 90 days to kick in so we had to push her appointment back a little. Dr. Nagle was out of the office this week and didn't have any appointments until August but we got another pediatrician there to squeeze us in yesterday :)

Alexis came in at 23 lbs and her height is 32 1/4". She is obviously still on the small side: 3rd percentile for weight and 7th percentile for height. Of course her weight has always been a concern for me; I constantly feel like she is too small. I am so thankful that she has had such amazing pediatricians; Dr. Blackburn let me know that aslong as she is eating healthy foods and is growing at her own rate, which she is, that if anything we are lucky that she is so small, since so many kids now are overweight that of course in comparison Lexi looks really small. Anyone can attest to how much Lexi eats, she is just so active that she burns it off. I didn't realize the average weight for a 2 year old is only 27 lbs, so she is really not that far off. He said that Lexi will probably be 5'4 so she will be small, but I'm 5'4 and I think that is a perfect height for a girl ;) I kept thinking she was going to be much shorter but he seems to think that will be how tall she ends up being. She has great eye contact and reflexes and she is perfectly healthy. She got 1 shot and won't need anymore until she goes into kindergarten :) She also won't need another visit until she's 3!

That is all for now :)

On the 7th we headed to Las Vegas just for a couple of hours. We were picking up my brother's friend who was moving out to Utah; He happened to be in Vegas that day so we planned to drive down to pick him up. It just so happened that my friend Michelle was going to be in Vegas that weekend so of course I was excited to meet up with her. We got to Vegas at around 4pm, it was sooo hot atleast 110 degrees. We picked up my brother's friend at New York, New York and headed to Encore to meet up with Chelle. We stayed at the Wynn for my 21st Birthday, they were building Encore when we were there so I had never been. Encore is very similar to the Wynn and was just as beautiful; We meet up with Chelle and ate at a cafe there. It was nice to catch up since I hadn't seen her since right after Alexis was born when we went down to San Francisco. Alexis was being a little diva, the first 10 minutes we were there I had a least a dozen people come up and tell us how cute she was or just plain staring lol, she does love the attention. After our yummy lunch, Chelle had to go back to her hotel so we said our goodbyes and my brother and his friend meet up with us and watched Lexi for us while we gambled a little ;) We played the slots and didn't make any money on the first couple of times but we decided to give it one last chance. I found a slot machine and put in $3 and two vouchers for like 10 and 17 cents and we won $44 dollars! It was a nice little trip :)

This past Saturday we had Alexis' first pageant. The pageant was through Beehive Beauties and it was their American Summer pageant which is an all natural beauty pageant. I'm not into the whole make up thing so I was happy about that. There was a beachwear and themewear segment; For the beachwear we went with a pink bathing suit that had a little tutu on it, she wore pink and green flip flops and her sunglasses I put here hair in pony tails. For the formal wear segment the dress has to be red, white, and blue so we found this cute dress at Gymboree, she wore her white sandals, and I ordered a red, white, and blue headband from etsy with a little rhinestone piece in the middle. This being Lexi's first pageant I was obviously new to everything well you can pay for just the basic entry or you can add or buy a package with additional options, for example they have a program that you can buy and they have a front cover, back cover winner, calendar girl, themewear photo, etc. So if you want you can pay and submit a picture for those and if she wins they put her picture in the program, aside from the picture they already put in, and you get a trophy for that. We decided not to enter her into all of those because it can get expensive and since this was her first pageant we didn't know if she would like it. Well Lexi definitely loved it so next time we will probably opt for those optional prizes.

There were several age groups and Lexi won 1st place in her age group! I went on stage with her during both of her walks and Derek told me she did the best out of the other girls in her group but of course I couldn't see the other girls because we were backstage but he was right! They had some participation trophies for the girls that didn't place and for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd they had bigger trophies, sashes, and tiaras. Alexis got a "Queen" sash, a tiara, a big trophy, and an elephant stuffed animal with a pageant t-shirt on it, the stuffed animal was her favorite part. Since Lexi placed at this pageant she qualifies to be in the year end final pageant in December! We are so proud of our little girl. Derek is so funny, now that he knows she had fun and that she did so well, he is wanting us to find more to put her in before the one in December so she has more practice. I've found a couple but most of them are not all natural and I am completely against putting make up, hair spray and using curling irons and all that. I gotta say there were a lot of wack jobs at this pageant; Moms that were waving and dancing around trying to tell their little ones when to do every move. I saw moms using curling irons on their little 2-5 year olds and to me that is just ridiculous; Way to start ruining your daughter's hair this early. I am fine with using curlers, without the hard plastic, on little girls, but curling irons is too much. Even if we put her in pageants that are not all natural we definitely will not be using make up on Lexi. Here are some pictures of her at the pageant.

A couple of weeks ago I applied for a position that I really want. I had a phone interview and have scheduled a final interview in a couple of weeks. I really really want this job; So hopefully I will have more to say on that in a couple of weeks.

I mentioned last time that I wasn't sure how I felt about Alexis' new daycare. Well I have decided I don't like it very much. I would consider myself to be a daycare veteran at this point, Alexis has been going to daycare for over a year now and she's been to 3 different ones so I am used to things being a certain way. All of the daycares she has been at always gave us a note at the end of the day with what she ate, when she napped, how many times she was changed, if she was happy or not, etc... This daycare doesn't give you any information, they always have a different teacher in her classroom and the classroom set up is kind of all over the place. I loved her last day care the way the classroom was set up all of the kids ate breakfast together at the table, instead of in the kitchen in a high chair. Also her other daycare had a separate playground for the younger kids that was very age appropriate, her new daycare's playground doesn't seem age appropriate. We will definitely be putting her at another daycare once we move to our new place.

Well that is all for now. Enjoy! Vanessa Hodgeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07948184901276178786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240967245118442090.post-60402454302492102542013-07-01T22:05:00.000-06:002013-07-04T15:06:19.734-06:00We Are Officially Half Way Trough 2013!Can you believe today is July 1st!?!? I can't. The year has gone by so fast. I guess the older you get the faster time seems to pass. I can't believe I am 26, though it doesn't really feel any different than 25, it still feels weird to think that I am closer to 30 now.

This last week has been very busy and exhausting. I was training most of last week and it was a breeze, since I have worked at the OG before it was really just a refresher. We got to eat lots of food and try some yummy drinks :) Usually when you start serving you get started on 2 tables but myself and another girl that also has served at the OG got to start right away on 3, so that was nice it made a real difference on how I did today. I work dinner shifts the rest of the week and I'm off Friday and Saturday which is nice I just wish that I wasn't working a dinner shift on 4th of July :( but being new that's what happens. I am hoping that it will be really slow and they will phase me out early so that we can go watch some fireworks. Lexi absolutely loves fireworks so I really want to go with her to watch them.

We started Lexi at a new daycare today that is in between our apartment and work since I am not going to be working at the campus in West Valley this coming school year we took her out of the daycare she was at near to that campus. I am going to be at the Draper campus so that's why we were looking for a daycare nearer to where I am going to be. This daycare is smaller and I don't know how I feel about it quite yet since she was just there today but so far it seems pretty nice. For now Lexi will be going there 3 days a week once August rolls around and I have to do training for the school she will be going full time to that same campus or we may find something closer to where we end up moving.

Our lease at this apartment is up in July, we are paying month to month till August so that we can have time to find another place. We keep going back and forth on whether we want to try to buy a house or not. We don't plan to stay here for very long, just long enough for Derek to finish school so part of me thinks that we should still buy a house and not throw our money away but Derek feels like that won't be enough time to make it worth the hassle. Regardless right now we know we are not ready so we are planning on renting a home. Since Derek's company got moved to a building farther south unfortunately we have to move into Utah county, I like Salt Lake County ;), fortunately we are looking in Lehi which is barely into Utah county. Renting a home is going to cost us just as much as our 2 bedroom apartment and we are going to get so much more room and have a yard for Alexis, which is much needed. I am excited to start looking more towards the end of this month.

It has been so ridiculously hot! I hate the heat with a passion. I love the cold. I miss the wonderful San Francisco weather on days like today were it is over 100 degrees. I get off work after the car has been parked in the hot sun and feel like I'm going to melt the second I get in. We kept the apartment nice and cool though ;)and always have ice cold water so it gives me some relief.

My adorable little niece Harlow is turning 1 on the 4th :) I can't believe it! It feels like she was born just yesterday. I am so bummed we can't be there for her birthday; I am happy we got to see her and my family for Lexi's birthday. Hopefully we will be able to make it down there maybe in September.

I gotta say, I am so in love with Alexis. Everyday I am blown away by how much I adore her and how amazing and intelligent she is. I am so humbled by her love for me. There is no feeling in the world that compares to hearing her say "mami" and hearing that love in her voice. I always think back on that first moment we laid eyes on each other and I took a mental photo of it and can still remember how we stared at each other and I knew that she knew who I was. Love at first sight really does exist <3

P.S. Derek and I took Lexi to see Monsters University and she loved it; She kept yelling at the screen lol Really cute movie made me miss college life. Vanessa Hodgeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07948184901276178786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240967245118442090.post-68227776798974677952013-06-22T23:28:00.001-06:002013-06-22T23:33:04.665-06:00Nuevo
I can't believe it's been almost a month since I blogged.

Well there are a ton of new things going on. The school year ended on the 13th so I have been relaxing this past week or so and it's been so nice not to have to get up early to go to work. I miss all the kids but it's nice to have a break from the craziness. Lexi is not in daycare at the moment, since I haven't been working for the last week but that may change here pretty soon.

I have my orientation tomorrow at the OG (Olive Garden) I figured I needed a summer job, so I'm going to be a server at the Olive Garden in South Jordan. I was a server at the OG in San Francisco which was like 5 1/2 years ago, I really loved being a server so I'm excited. I will be at the Draper 2 campus in the fall continuing to be a teacher in training. I was asked to change over to the West Valley campus, not the one I was at this year, but we are probably going to be renting a home in the Lehi area since our lease is up in August and Derek's company is moving to a new building in Pleasant Grove. I really didn't want to move into Utah county but unfortunately we don't have a choice so that is why I asked to be at the Draper campus. I am hoping to continue to work part time at the OG once the fall starts.

My birthday was yesterday on the 21st, first day of summer, and longest day of the year :)I got a massage yesterday which was amazing but painful all at the same time. I have the worst knots on my back and am in constant discomfort/pain. The masseuse worked out a lot of my knots so I am in some pain but overall my back feels so much better; I really need to make getting a massage a regular thing. After the massage I got some yummy lunch at In n Out, it was soooo good. Later that night Derek and I went out for dinner and some drinks. I got this amazing strawberry mojito. Being 26 really doesn't feel any different than being 25.

Random off topic, but my brother was making fun of me the other day because I told him Derek and I are going to put Alexis in the Beehive Beauties Pageant next month. He thinks pageants are weird/bad so he was making fun; While he was strolling Alexis around while I was getting my massage the other day a lady told him how cute Alexis was (assuming it was his baby) the lady told him she should be in a pageant, when he told me this of course I had to laugh. So many people tell us to put her in commercials/pageants it would be a disgrace to keep her beauty all to ourselves ;) The pageant is July 20th at Weber State there is a beachwear and formal wear category. I hope she has fun with the whole pageant thing; I will definitely update once it gets closer.

Alexis had pink eye about 2 weeks ago, it took about 7 days for it to actually go away. I am almost positive that she got it from someone at daycare. When we picked her up from daycare is when I first noticed it and it only got worse. None of us got it, just her, but now it's all gone. Even with having pink eye she was just smiling and happy :) she's such a trooper. Alexis has been so wild lately and such a fun little girl. She has gotten in the habit of calling everything "mine" and is extra sassy! We haven't had Alexis' 2 year appointment yet; Derek's insurance is delayed a couple of weeks from kicking in so I am hoping within the next 2 weeks we can get her in because I am dying to know what all of her measurements are.

Random: I actually started driving Derek's car. We drove down to Southern California 2 weeks ago to pick up my brothers, we were briefly there for a day. On the way back I drove a lot of the way and once we got back drove myself to work for the last week and caught on really fast so now I am able to drive it :) I am sure I could have gotten a better hang of it before but I just didn't take the time, but I'm glad I did. On another random topic, there is a golf course right across the street from us and there is a trial that goes through it that I never really knew about. My brothers would take that trail to work everyday but I didn't know it goes as far as it actually does. Well today we decided to take a walk on the trail, Lexi came along in her stroller, well the trail is pretty awesome it's about 3 miles long. It was such a hot day but it was so nice to go on a walk and much needed, we walked 2 miles there and back so 4 miles total :)

I am in need of a vacation we are planning a trip to San Francisco mid August to see my friends :) I miss them, the city, and I know they really want to see Lexi. I feel like there is more I needed to say but it is getting late and I need to be up early so I guess we will stop here.

Enjoy! Vanessa Hodgeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07948184901276178786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240967245118442090.post-11452392948324051832013-05-23T20:50:00.001-06:002013-05-23T21:02:28.254-06:00We Have a 2 Year Old On Our Hands! Our Lexi turned 2 on May 14th; I can't believe she is 2 already! We celebrated her birthday the weekend before with Derek's grandma/aunts/uncles and the week after her birthday, last Saturday the 18th we celebrated with my friends and family. My parents and brothers came out last Friday, we had a packed apartment. That night we went out to eat while my dad watched the girls (Lexi and Harlow). That night i had started baking cupcakes for the party, we ordered a jumbo one for Lexi from a cute little bakery near by. I forgot to take a picture of the ones I made for everyone else but they were strawberry and some vanilla ones with pink frosting and white pearls :) Saturday morning I did some last minute shopping for the party. We had sandwiches, potato salad, chips, and watermelon.

We had Lexi's birthday at a nearby park; it had been raining the night before and even that morning. Lucky for us the weather cleared up and we didn't get any rain the whole time we had Alexis' party. We had the party in a covered pavilion, but there was a playground we were afraid we wouldn't be able to use, since it didn't rain the kids were able to play in it. Unfortunately Harlow had a cold the whole weekend so she didn't get to do much :( Derek's friend and his wife came with their little boy Gavin and Lexi had a blast playing with him. BTW Gavin was our choice for a boy name when we thought Lexi might be a boy, love the name! My good friend from work and her husband came so that was nice.

I put together a "photobooth" i wish I would have had more paper because it didn't look as good as I had hoped, but it was fun to take some silly pictures with the props. The paper kept falling off because of the uneven surface, but we figured it out. Lexi wasn't a big fan of the photobooth but I feel like the balloons behind us may have been distracting her. Lexi did seem to like posing more with my mom lol she smiled for their picture together.

Alexis is such a diva! I don't know if it was because it was past her nap time or what, but she was a real sass ass lol. All she wanted to do was play on the playground and all she wanted to eat was pickles. Lexi is probably the best eater I've ever seen and this time she did not care for anything but pickles. When it came time to eat her cupcake, she took a couple of bites but didn't eat very much of it. Lexi opened up her presents and I think her favorite was all the clothes she got. She tried to put on almost every outfit she got. Lately she has been doing that a lot, trying to put her shoes and socks on. My dad bought her a ton of clothes, my mom bought her a dress, my brother and his gf bought her a big wheel, Derek's friend got her a cute Disney princess drawing board/DVD/bubbles, we bought her an outfit, some musical instrument toys, and her new princess potty :)

We want to start potty training next week, hopefully it goes well. Alexis looked so cute in her birthday outfit, especially with the little crown. I know she had a great time at her party :) The rest of the weekend we just hung out. Derek, myself, Angelique, and my brothers all went to City Creek downtown. City Creek was just being built when I graduated from the U and left so when we moved back and it was done I really wanted to go but just never got around to it. It is a beautiful mall, reminded me of Rockefeller Center on a warm summer day. We came back home Saturday night and played Fact or Crap till about 2am. The next day my dad left so we said goodbye and since my brother and mom were staying till Monday we went out to breakfast and in the afternoon went to nickelcade to play some games. We watched tv that night and went to bed early. Monday morning we said goodbye and they left. It made me really sad to see them go, we had such a fun weekend.

This week seemed to drag but now that it's Thursday night it actually feels like it went by faster after all. For our 4th grade we had a culminating event of poems and songs that our students had learned throughout the year. We had our performance last night and I was on campus all day from before 8am till 8:30pm, I got caught up on a ton of grading so it was nice. I got so teary eyed when the kids performed; I think of Alexis performing once she gets into school and it makes me so emotional. Plus I love my kids and I love seeing how excited they get about performing. I am so thankful that I have Monday off; it is much needed.

I am sure I have more to say but I think this will do for now. Enjoy!
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsTc_VsPsLAUi5SzFPKYZMzYDXzMZ6XG7UPt-dNOngNYjcWygYxrKT8KJuzQutWdk3eUTte7Cgo2SkkY1HrjBIRhbY8hooV0gA9Hbfq3jL3zL-NLT2zBY8tjycbTaIFI41d1a82vGL8w/s640/blogger-image--773382348.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; It feels like just yesterday I was holding her in my arms for the first time. I am so excited for her birthday. I am excited to see my family :) I cannot wait to see her in her birthday outfit. My little princess is going to love it.

In the mean time not much has been happening, just working a lot. Alexis is loving her daycare so that's always good. Derek is working a lot and he seems to be enjoying his job. We got to see Holly a couple of weeks ago :) it was nice seeing her since it had been a while. Lexi really missed her auntie. Derek and I are both excited for her to move out to Utah after graduation so we can spend more time with her :)

The last week Alexis had been throwing up in the middle of the night; It happened 3 nights in a row. I felt so bad for her :( She hasn't done it for a couple of nights so I'm hoping it's passed. I'm not sure if I mentioned this in my last post but the first week Lexi was at her new daycare she had 2 incidents. One of the days I picked her up she had some scratches on her cheek and they said they're not sure exactly what happened but it happened while she was playing. Well I took her home and cut her nails just in case she had just scratched herself. Well the very next day I pick her up and she had the same kind of scratches on her other cheek. Turns out she was playing with a doll and this boy wanted it and he tried to take it from her and he scratched her! I was pretty pissed, this had never happened at her other daycare, and even though I like this one better it was pretty upsetting. I told the teacher in the class that they need to keep an eye on her so it doesn't happen again. I put some Neosporin on her scratches and it's all better now. I guess the older she is getting the more accidents she will undoubtedly have.

On Saturday Lexi was trying to stand on one of her toys and it slipped out from under her and she fell on her face pretty much; She had a bloody nose, a fat lip, and a scratch on her chin :( Poor baby cried so bad but we gave her some Tylenol and stopped her nosebleed. She doesn't seem to mind the bruised lip; Her scratch on her chin is still pretty red but I'm sure it will go away.

I've been meaning to share that I've lost 5 pounds in the last 2 weeks :) I know it doesn't sound like much but to me it is. Last week I lost 4 pounds and this week a little over 1. I was hoping I'd lost another four but I had like 3 "cheat" dinners and was not able to work out really at all this week. I have been eating Progresso Light soups for lunch and for snacks at work I've been eating carrots and apples and drinking lots of water. The soups are like 180 calories so it's helping a lot. I am hoping for another 4 pounds this week :)

I always want to write more but I am tired and don't have much to say but I am sure on my next post I will.
It feels like Christmas just happened and now we are already past Easter. April is one of my favorite months, even though the weather hasn't been so nice but I guess that's April showers for you.

Alexis will be 2 in a month! I can't believe how quickly these last 2 years have gone by. Lexi is growing up so fast and it makes me sad to think of her getting older this quickly. She is still very petite for almost being 2. We ordered her invites on Etsy and I added some rhinestones to them, I think it makes it perfect; I'm happy with how they turned out. I will be sending the invites out this week and will also be ordering her dress and crown :) I am so in love with the little dress. Since Lexi's birthday is during the week we decided to have her party that weekend at a local park. My parents and my brothers are all coming out :) I am excited to see my little niece Harlow.

Aside from Lexi's birthday coming up, we've just been really busy with work. The last day of school is June 14th so I am thinking of looking for a temp job for those 2 months I won't be working until the next school year starts; I'm still not completely sure yet though. Derek is doing amazing at his job :)

We put Alexis in a new daycare :) I liked her old daycare but Derek and I bought felt that they weren't spending enough time academically stimulating her. The location also was not ideal now that we have both changed jobs and it got really expensive. So we looked at a couple of different ones and found one that is on the way to my work. It's a newer daycare and it is less expensive but so much better than the last one she was at. The rooms are organized really well and they let us know they do really well with helping to potty train, which we will be starting on right after she turns 2. I thought she might have a problem adjusting the first day but they told us she did great :) I love this place!

On another note, a while back we were really looking to get into a house but had decided not to pursue it because we don't plan to be in Utah for more than 4 years and didn't want the hassle of trying to sell it. However as of late we've thought about it a lot and don't want to throw four years of rent away when we could be investing it in a house. We are wanting a townhome and we went to check some out this weekend and I completely fell in love with one of them so we are hoping by October/November to hopefully be able to purchase :)

Here is a picture of Alexis' invites :) I think that is all for now, enjoy!

Alexis is taking a nap so this seemed like a good time to blog.

I have this whole next week off from work since all the kids are out for Spring Break. I am glad to have this time off but at the same time bummed I am losing out on those hours. The last 3 days I have just been kind of lazy enjoying not having to do much. I love being home with Lexi and spending all this time with her :)

Alexis such a sweetheart; she gives the best hugs. I always tell her, "Te quiero mucho" instead of "I love you", because I speak to her in Spanish, and she can say "Te" and she mouths the rest of it but can't say it; I know she understands what it means because she always gives me the biggest hugs after I say it to her. I can't wait for Lexi to say it back :)

On another note, it's kind of weird having Easter on the 31st of March, but I am so excited to be into April. April is one of my favorite months :) Alexis loved her Easter basket! She spent a lot of time playing with the "grass" in her basket. We bought her this cute dress and new sandals. She is ridiculously gorgeous in the dress, she didn't let me take a good picture of her, but that is her walking around in it. We also decorated eggs and here is a picture of mommy, daddy, and Lexi's eggs.

We went to Red Robin to have Easter late lunch/early dinner. Lexi is such an amazing eater :) She loved drinking from her new cup she got in her basket. The food was yummy and she was so full she passed out when we got home.

I can't believe Lexi's 2nd Birthday is coming up in a month and a half! We are reserving the park and ordering the invitations this coming weekend :) It's going to be a princess theme and the colors will be gray, light pink, and white. I am so excited for my family to come out. Mother's day is also coming up and my birthday and then Harlow's birthday. There is so much coming up the next couple of months! Vanessa Hodgeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07948184901276178786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240967245118442090.post-26991762104030935252013-03-14T20:29:00.001-06:002013-03-14T20:30:49.158-06:00New New New!I have been meaning to blog for the longest time but have been crazy busy.

Let me start off with our visit to Southern California :) we were there for 4 days and it was a much needed vacation. We got to hang out with my brothers and my parents. I got to see little Harlow :) she is getting so big. Alexis was so jealous whenever my mom or I would hold Harlow, it was cute lol

I had a fun girls night with my best friend Kathy, Magaly and Debbie :) We went to downtown Fullerton and got a bite to eat and some drinks at a lounge and then did a little bit of bar hopping. It was definitely a fun night. Love my girls!

It was my dad's birthday on the 26th, we couldn't see him that day so we had dinner the night before. We also took Alexis to the Long Beach Aquarium while we were down there, baby came with us. I hadn't been since middle school , when we went for a field trip. We went on a Monday so there were a ton of kids on field trips, so cute :) Alexis loved it especially the penguins. We got her a fish book as a souvenir and she loves it.

The weather down there was so nice, it made it hard to come back to Utah.

After coming back to Utah I actually quit my job and started working as a teacher. I am in training right now probably through the end of the year. I am in a 4th grade class right now but also teach Reading and Math with a mixed class. I'm teaching at a Charter school which is so different from a public school, the first couple of days it was definitely tough to get used to but I really like it now and can see the benefits in charter schools over public schools. The 4th graders all had an assembly and did a song and presentation the other day and I got all teary eyed watching them, I can't imagine how I will be when Alexis starts performing. I love kids :) I also love dressing up to work everyday, I missed that. I get to wear skirts and slacks which I love, my butt looks amazing in slacks, well in anything really ;)

I don't want to be a teacher as a profession but while we are in Utah I figured it would be something I would enjoy until we move back to California and I can do a Masters in Psychology.

I am excited for Alexis' birthday coming up. I have pinned a lot of ideas and favorited a lot of stuff on Etsy I want for her birthday. It's going to be a princess theme: light pink, gray, and white colors. I am going to make Lexi a huge cupcake and cupcakes for everyone else. We really wanted to have it in California but we are going to have it here in UT. We are going to go this weekend to scope out what park we want to have it at. I can't believe she is going to be 2! My baby is growing up so fast.

I ordered some Spanish Flash cards for Lexi :) they got here today and I got her to say "azul" but she said "azu" which is close enough.

There is probably more I should say but I think that will suffice for now. Enjoy :)

We are leaving Friday after I get off work and coming back Tuesday :) I am excited to see my family and friends. During Christmas I didn't get to see any of my friends because everyone was so busy. Lexi gets to see her grandparents and her little cousin Harlow :) I am excited to show my parents all the new things Alexis is doing.

Usually when I go home it doesn't feel like a vacation but this time it really is feeling like it will be. I get to have a much needed girl's night with my best friends! I still haven't used my Massage Envy gift card that I got for Christmas so I am excited to use that when I go down there. We are also going to be taking Alexis to the Long Beach Aquarium :) I have not been there since 7th grade, when we went for a field trip, so I am uber excited! I know Lexi will love it <3

Aside from that, we have just been working a lot. I am applying to start my licensing to teach and also applying for teaching positions. In Utah you can get a license to teach if you have a Bachelor's and you meet the requirements. The hiring season is coming up this month so I am excited to do that. I eventually do want to go back to school but Utah doesn't have a lot of options so I am going to hopefully teach until we move back to Cali, hopefully in just a couple of years, once Derek finishes school.

Lexi is getting so big. We are going to need to do some Spring/Summer clothes shopping for her really soon. For a couple of weeks now Alexis has been drooling like crazy, to the point where I have to change her shirt 3 or more times a day if I am home with her. I tried to check for new teeth but nothing yet, she only has 4 teeth that haven't come in yet so it definitely possible that those are coming in. I have been working with Lexi on the alphabet, in Spanish, and she has gotten so good at it; For some reason she will only say the middle of the alphabet from m-q, her favorite letter to say is P. I can't wait for my parents to hear Alexis reciting the alphabet, even if it is only part of it :) She has also been repeating almost everything I say which is so cute. For Valentine's Day she took some V-Day cards in for the other kids in her daycare class an she was so cute in her Hello Kitty shirt, I don't particularly care for Hello Kitty but we had a hard time finding Valentine's Day themed shirts at Target, go figure, and we didn't feel like running to the mall. All the V-Day cards she got had candy with them, kinda weird since I figure most 2 year old kids don't eat candy, we got gold fishes with her V-Day cards.

I have really started narrowing down everything for Alexis' 2nd Birthday. It is getting so close and I am so excited, but also just a little bit sad that she is growing up so fast :(

I know I should have more to say but for some reason I cannot think of anything. I am sure I will have much to post about when I get back from our trip :) Vanessa Hodgeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07948184901276178786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240967245118442090.post-44585496479989394352013-02-05T22:04:00.001-07:002013-02-06T17:26:33.470-07:00Messy LexiAlexis has been such a messy little girl lately. She has been eating really messy whenever I try to get her to use a spoon or fork she will do it for a couple of bites but then just eat with her hands and most of it ends up in her high chair. She has also been drooling like crazy lately; I'm really not sure why though, as I am almost positive she is not teething. She has all her teeth now except for the 4 all the way in the back, top and bottom, and those don't come in until around 2 years.

Speaking of messy...Alexis has been grabbing her poop out of her diaper. Just thinking about it makes my stomach churn. The first time was on Saturday, while I was at work Derek text me and tells me he got out of the shower and Alexis was in her room playing and he walks in to the sight of her holding two hands full of poop and the worst part is that it was smeared on her eyebrows! So disgusting and traumatizing for Derek lol. Well she did it again on Monday she was sitting in the living room with me and I had just taken her clothes off because she had drooled all over herself and I looked away for a second and she had some on her hand :( So we bought some onesies that we are going to start putting on under her jeans and tops. I am just so afraid she will put it in her eye or in her mouth.

Aside from all that Lexi has been great as always, she is finally over her cold. She said "mom" the other day so clear and it made me so happy, it wasn't like the mumbling momma or mami, she has also been mumbling part of the Spanish alphabet :) I need to find her more shows to watch in Spanish.

Lately she has been crazy attached to me and never seems to want to talk. I'll try to sing the alphabet or count with her but she'll just hug me tight, so tight it's hard to let go lol I love that she does that but it's hard because I want to talk with her and help her along with her words.

Nothing is really new with us aside from all that. We are going to be going to Southern California towards the end of February for my dad's birthday. My brothers want to see their friends and I want to see my family and friends as well. It'll be a nice break.

Well that is all for now. Kind of random I know :)

Oh ya and because of how mobile she is we just started her in the Huggies Slip Ons, so far I love them :)

Derek's coworker has a little boy named Gavin, who turned 2. [By the way, I love the name Gavin and had we had a boy that would have been his name :)] He is such a sweet little boy and it was nice to meet Derek's friend and his wife, as well as their friends. There were other little kids there so it was fun to watch Alexis playing with them. Aside from daycare she doesn't have a lot of time around little kids. We had some treats and cake and watched them play the rest of the night. Lexi just loves being around other kids and that makes me so happy!

We bought Gavin a Tonka truck and a Curious George DVD and he loved it! It makes me even more excited for Lexi's 2nd birthday coming up. I have already started pinning things months ago. At first I wanted to do a ballerina theme, but this was keeping in mind that she was supposed to do baby ballet this winter but since SLC ballet isn't offering it this spring and I couldn't find it anywhere else at the time I could do it with her, I decided to wait and use that theme until after she has had a chance to do it. I am leaning towards a Princess theme now. We will be having her birthday party in Southern California. We will have something small for her here but the big party in So Cal.

Well I just wanted to share that. Time for bed. My 3 day weekends go by so fast.Vanessa Hodgeshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07948184901276178786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5240967245118442090.post-44655889688664492072013-01-21T19:10:00.000-07:002013-01-21T19:10:02.104-07:00The Terrible Twos!Yes, the terrible twos have arrived early! The last 2 weeks or so Alexis has been a little terror. She has to be in my arms or near me, if I put here on the ground and she is near enough to touch me she is fine but the second I move away from her she freaks out and starts whining/crying. We have had to put her in time out a couple of times. I also had to spank her for the first time this week :( I did it just hard enough for her to understand that it's because she is not behaving, but I definitely don't like doing it.

One thing that may also be contributing to her being a little whiny is that we finally weaned her off her paci, she's been without it for a week now. I am so glad we finally did it :) I was really mad at myself for not sticking to my guns about taking it away once she started walking. I've always hated when I see little kids who can walk, walking around with pacis. But Alexis only used it to sleep and maybe every once in a blue moon when she would freak out, so she never really just walked around with it. I am just glad that she can go to sleep now without needing the paci and we will never have to worry about it again!

Lexi has been a little dancing machine! She shakes her shoulders to the music. I have been trying to get her on video but she won't let me :( I'll have to candid catch her one of these days. She has some pretty sweet moves ;)

I have tooth chart for Lexi and it is almost all filled up and ready to frame. She is only missing 4 teeth, but apparently those come in at like 20 to 24 months. She is so cute with all her little teeth.

We have pretty much just been working a lot. I don't remember if I mentioned this in my last blog, but two of my brothers, Manuel and Alex moved out to Utah. They were both having a hard time finding a job, California just really sucks right now, and the community college they were wanting to go to is super impacted. Here in Utah literally everyone is hiring and at the community college here you can do your whole AA online. So they moved out here 2 weeks ago and within the first week already had jobs. Granted the jobs are not anything spectacular it is better than nothing. My brother Alex who graduated high school this year is working at McDonald's and my brother Manuel is working at Walmart. They are both looking for 2 jobs to work as much as possible and save up to go to start school in the summer. They are liking it out here despite not being used to the cold.

I am planning a trip home at the end of February, my brothers want to go back home and see their friends and I would love to see mine too since I didn't get to see them for Christmas when I was down there.

I thought I had more to say and usually I would since it's been 2 weeks since I posted but we have just been running around taking my brothers to their interviews and all that stuff.

I guess I could say that I am pretty upset about Green Bay losing to the 49ers. Should have never happened. I do hope the Ravens beat them :)

Well that is all. Enjoy :)
I am really excited for this new year. We have a lot to look forward to as a family. Let's just take a moment to take a look back at 2012.

In 2012 my Lexi turned 1 :) and she has grown so much this year! She is absolutely gorgeous and amazing in every way, she is definitely her mother's daughter ;) Derek and I also decided to move back to Utah this past year. It turned out to be a great decision in terms of work for Derek and we are in a much better financial situation because of it. This past year I became an aunt :) my older brother and his girlfriend had a little baby girl, Harlow. I love being an aunt and Alexis loves having a little cousin! I also turned 25 this year and as much as I would love to stay 25 forever, I am looking forward to my birthday this year.

We went to Southern California to see my family for Christmas :) it was so nice to spend time with my family. Alexis got a lot of good stuff from us and from my family. I got my snow boots and new diaper bag with a wallet :) Derek got a Nike running GPS watch and some DVDs. Alexis got some cute bows, snacks, nail polish, doll and coloring books in her stocking. Derek got a magazine, work out stuff, an iPhone work out sleeve, iTunes gift card and some protein bars and vitamins. I got a Parenting magazine, a gift card for a massage (thank god, cause I really need it), some work out stuff, vitamins, body wash, and chocolate :) all in all we had a great Christmas. I was really sad to have to go but we had to pack all our stuff to move it up.

We had to move all our stuff we had left at my brothers apt, so we decided to move into our own place. We got a 2bd 1bth apt in Sandy. We moved in on the 26th and Alexis loves it! I am sure Alexis likes it so much because she gets her own room :) which mommy and daddy are thankful for because she really does need her own space. I had to go back to work on the 27th and lucky Derek had the whole 2 weeks off till tomorrow. It took us till yesterday to really get everything put away and packed but we got everything unpacked and a clean apt for the New Year :) We signed a 7 month lease because we should be all ready to go to get into a house by June. We originally were going to try and get into a house in February but we want to get the best interest rate we can so we want to wait till June.

Another thing that is uber exciting is my two younger brothers Alex and Manuel are moving out to Utah! I convinced them to move out here because of all the job opportunities here that they are not finding in California plus they can easily go to school while they work. They are coming out next week :)

Alexis and Derek ending the year sick and starting the new year sick :( poor babies. Mommy has a super human immune system and never gets sick :) so I do have to take care of my babies.

I'm sure there is more to say but for now that is all :)

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgmErKzAKyghTntzC1cxvV9gHmFSJex-6sJ1l-EgYxz_sSpiUk8n53xrMyvCFfN3JO1YD6xe2t89yvM26IeHV3NLOFTFA8GMOKKSdf1jXbS1V9j3eG-3ACSs2Virn-RMKQoZiPWx9Klw/s640/blogger-image--927755499.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; I'm not sure how I feel about it yet; Derek likes it so I think I'm going to keep it for now.

Last week was so exhausting with no sleep and whatnot. For the last 2 nights Alexis has actually been sleeping; The nights before she would fight it and cry. Like I mentioned before, I thought she may have an ear infection again, Derek thinks it's just because she is sick that she couldn't sleep. She had tons of mucus in her throat and she has actually thrown up 4 times. She threw up on Saturday while we were out, luckily we were sitting in the car but I guess also very unlucky because she threw up all over herself, the carseat and also a bit on Derek's back seat. She threw up today during breakfast so I'm thinking it may be a stomach bug that's going around. She has been eating pretty light lately since nothing seems to be sitting well with her; It bums me out because whenever she gets sick like this I know it's affecting her weight gain, because even though she is sick, you wouldn't be able to tell with how happy and active she is.

I'm hoping she feels back to normal by this weekend...because we are going home! [Yes, I do still refer to Southern California as home.] I am so excited to get to see my family for Christmas. I am excited for Christmas in general.

Speaking of Christmas, I finally got the rest of Alexis' Christmas stuff. The only thing I had been waiting on was her ballerina doll for her stocking. After Pottery Barn Kids having it on back order twice they finally sent it. I was so excited until UPS accidentally delivered it to someone else, which they also did with her stocking. Luckily the person on the other street who got the stocking bought it back, we'll same thing happened with the doll but I wasn't so sure the person was going to bring it by, but they did today! I put it in her stocking and now everything is complete :) On kind of the same note, I ordered Alexis her first pair of Tiny Toms :) I wanted to get her these really cute Lacoste shoes but they didn't have her size so I feel in love with these toms. They should be getting here Wednesday if UPS does their job. I even called them today to make sure they don't send it somewhere else.

We did a little bit more Christmas shopping today got the Christmas Presents for my brother and his gf and my little niece Harlow. Now I just need to get my 3 little brothers something. I was surprised at how many people were doing all of their Christmas shopping today. I am so glad we got most all of it done after Thanksgiving.

Now that Christmas is just around the corner I am almost sad that this year is ending. Granted I know that next year we will have so much to look forward to so I am thankful for that, just sad in a way to see the holidays go.

I wanted to say how heartbroken I am about the tragedy in CT that happened this week. I was at work and it was on the TVs in the restaurant and I spent the day having to hold back tears whenever something new surfaced about it. I cannot fathom the thought of having to come home without Alexis, to all of her things and to never see her sweet face again, aside from pictures and videos. No parent should ever have to bury their child. I know how I feel when I think of Alexis' bright future and all the thing she will do and accomplish and I think about these parents who had kids who played sports, instruments, who were so bright and talented and to see that wasted to know that they would never get to experience a full life. I cannot fathom when this happens with adults but with children it's so much harder to comprehend, to take their future away from them and to take the innocence away from those children that witnessed it, is so heart wrenching. I was watching an interview with one of the kid's parents, who survived, and they said that whenever the doorbell rang he was afraid that it was the "bad guy" coming to kill him and that he asked his parents if there were more bad people like him in the world, I broke down and couldn't keep watching.

I know that everyone is either making this a political issue or mental health issue. I really disagree with people making this an issue about guns. If he didn't have access to guns there is no telling that he wouldn't have turned to explosives or any other homemade weapon he could have made. I am also tired of hearing people say that it could have been prevented, had his parents taken him to get help. If what they say is true, and my opinion based on what I've seen, this guy was a sociopath, there is no amount of medication or psychotherapy that can change that. Sociopaths are missing that part of their brain that allows them to tell right and wrong and do not have any sort of conscience. I am also beyond appalled that the media is trying to make a connection to Autism and why he killed all these people. People with Autism, while some are aggressive, they have random spurts of aggression and none of it is premeditated or in anyway calculated. Autism is a social and developmental disorder and someone with this disorder cannot have the ability to premeditate something like this. Sorry for the rant, but I had to put it out there.

I feel like there is more I should say but it's escaping me right now. Oh ya, blogging from an iPad is amazeballs!
Our Christmas cards got here yesterday and the Calendars got here today! I seriously love online shopping. I heard someone once explain it as a double rush, you get all the excitement of purchasing the item and more excitement when you receive it! I love love love our Christmas cards and we will be sending them out this week :) I also just received the calendars I made for my parents for Christmas. I had never used Shutterfly, but heard so many great things about their Calendars and it's definitely true.

Here are some pictures of the Calendars.

I am so in love with them. Shutterfly didn't have any calendars in Spanish so I wrote all the comments in Spanish but the months and all that are in English. I chose a different template for each of them, something more girly for my mom and more basic pattern for my dad; I did use all the same pictures for both though. I wish Derek and I had made one for ourselves, we will definitely have to. They are really great quality and I got 40% off, can't beat that!

I will also, finally, be expecting Alexis' ballerina doll in the mail. I ordered it weeks ago when I ordered Alexis' stocking and ornament but it had been on back order and Pottery Barn Kids had sent me emails telling me it was going to get to me soon but it never did and after talking to someone 3 different times, it is finally on its way! Alexis' Christmas gifts will finally be complete. Isn't it cute?

I was supposed to do a mommy and me baby ballet class with Alexis come Spring, which is where this whole ballerina theme thing came from, sadly the SLC Ballet is not offering it in the Spring; I was crushed, they offered it in the Fall but for some reason are not offering it in the Spring. I couldn't find a different ballet class that is offered at a time I can go and if I did it was for 2 year olds and up; I want to get Alexis started right away but it looks like we will have to wait and see if they offer it in the Fall. So we found this cool tumbling/gymnastics class offered on Saturdays that we are going to sign up for. I want her to do tumbling and gymnastics as well as ballet so I'm not too bummed, I was just really looking forward to ballet :(

Lexi is sick. I think she may have an ear infection again. I called her pedi's nurse and I think Derek is going to have to take her in tomorrow if she can't sleep through the night again. Getting 2 hours of sleep is not fun. I can't miss work,so daddy is going to have to take care of his little girl.

Oh ya I forgot to mention, Lexi had her picture taken with Santa and she loved it. She really loves the camera. Here is one of the pictures.
